Hate Speech in Egyptian and Arab News Websites (Analytical Study)

Abstract:

The study aimed to identify the most prominent issues and the nature of hate speech in the sample of Egyptian and Arab news websites, using both quantitative and qualitative analysis. It also highlighted the key propositions in hate speech.



Research Problem:

The research idea revolves around understanding hate speech through new media, specifically the Arabic and Egyptian news websites

Type and Method of Research:

This study falls under descriptive research and employed systematic comparison tools and survey methodology.



Research Community and Sample:

Research Community: Comprising Egyptian and Arab news websites, and the Egyptian public.

Research Sample: Included issues of national security, political issues, and foreign relations, with a focus on websites like Arabi21 and Rased.

Discourse Analysis Tool:

The study utilized discourse analysis tools to identify and analyze hate speech in opinion pieces, employing both qualitative and quantitative analysis to validate the findings.



Key General Findings:

Political issues ranked highest at (43.8%), with corruption as the leading concern at (25%).

The most significant propositions inciting political violence were against ruling regimes at (58.3%). In terms of inciting social violence, the focus on violating the law was prominent at (13.7%). For inciting hatred, the notion of treason and espionage was highlighted at (30.8%), while the proposition of exclusion and marginalization was at (3.5%).
